Hat Trick has been commissioned to make a one-off comedy drama for BBC1. Marc Warren, Alexander Armstrong and Keeley Hawes have been lined up to star in Mutual Friends.
Warren will play Martin Grantham, who is happily married to Jen (Hawes).
The pair have a son Dan and a nice house but one day Martin's best friend Carl throws himself under a train, setting off a disastrous sequence of events which will change Martin's live forever.
Into this mess steps old friend Patrick (Armstrong), who is everything Martin is not – glib, self-confident, popular and pathologically immature.
The 60-minute comedy drama is written by Richard Pinto and Anil Gupta, produced by Wild at Heart and Monarch of the Glen producer Rob Bullock and directed by Catherine Morshead.
It was commissioned by BBC controller of comedy commissioning Lucy Lumsden and will air later this year.
