The National Union of Teachers has called for a ban on TV advertising for alcoholic drinks to combat what it calls the 'blight' of under-age drinking.
In its manifesto for England's schools, the union has called on ministers to seek a commitment from the alcoholic beverage industry "not to target young people through sponsorship and advertising".
Nut said: "The blight of under-aged drinking is damaging the learning, lives and future of young people.
"The government should commit itself to regulating the alcoholic drinks industry to achieve this objective."
According to Nut, one in five school exclusions are alcohol-related.
