Five US to be rebranded

US content-based channel Five US is to be renamed FIVE USA as part of the broadcaster's move to undergo a branding refresh of all of its properties.

The rebranding, which will take effect from 16 February, will give the channel a new look and comes as FIVE USA unveils a number of new programmes.

The RTL-owned broadcaster said it has secured the UK premiere of The Beast, staring Patrick Swayze, and said it will also be showing the second series of comedy 30 Rock along with the seventh and final service of his series The Shield.

The move follows the change to sister channel, Five Life, which rebranded to Fiver in March last year, in an effort to make the channel appeal to a younger audience.

Five was the subject of speculation yesterday (January 21) following the release of the Ofcom report into public service broadcasting, which recommended that a potential merger or partnership with Channel 4 could aid the future provision of PSB content.
