1.5m see Last Days of Princess Diana

Diana: Last Days of a Princess proved to be a ratings winner for Five at 9pm last night, pulling in 1.5m (8%).

Although the programme was widely panned by the critics, its audience was significantly above the slot average of 1.2m (6%). It began with a figure of 1.5m (8%) and peaked at 1.6m (7%) at 9.45pm, although it had a largely stable audience throughout.

The good news stopped there though. The show was preceded at 8pm by Diana and the Camera which only pulled in 708,000 (3.44%), below the slot average of 963,000 (4.1%).

The first instalment of BBC2's four part series India with Sanjeev Bhaskar also proved to be a hit in the 9pm slot. The comedian's odyssey around India pulled in an average audience of 2.2m (10.2%). This compared to a slot average of 1.7m (7.2%).

India with Sanjeev Bhaskar was preceded by the fourth episode of the six-part Indian culinary show Indian Food Made Easy, which attracted 2.2m (10.5%) at 8:30pm.

The fifth episode of Channel 4's six episode Empire's Children at 9pm, which saw comedienne Jenny Eclair explore her family's colonial past, attracted 1.3m (5.9%).

BBC1's 9pm show, the fourth episode of six-parter Fight for Life, prompted 3.1m (14.5%) to tune in. The documentary series so far has averaged 3.5m (16.4%).

ITV1's 9pm offering Rosemary & Thyme attracted 5.3m (24.6%) and was succeeded with a disappointing 2.1m (10.5%) for the first series of reality show Help! I'm a Teen Mum. This was down from the slot average of 3.5m 18.4%.

Soaps clean up

EastEnders performed strongly, yet again, at 8pm with an audience of 8.3m (41.2%).

The double helping of Coronation Street at 7:30pm and 8:30pm also collected impressive audiences of 8.5m (45.3%) and 8.7m (41.7%) respectively.
