iPlayer Launches On Sky's Online TV Service

The BBC and BSkyB have signed a deal to make iPlayer programming available through the satellite broadcaster's online TV service Sky Player.

From today, visitors to sky.com/skyplayer will be able to access the 400 weekly hours of BBC shows that are available through the iPlayer, including Dr Who and EastEnders.

BBC programmes will be shown free of charge and fall within Sky Player's existing genres.

Griff Parry, director of on-demand, BSkyB, said: "Access to BBC content along with improvements to the user experience will further support the ongoing success of Sky Player.

"The combination of more choice and easier access means Sky Player users will find it even simpler to enjoy a wide range of TV content. The addition of links to content from BBC channels further demonstrates Sky's role as a leading online aggregator with access to one of the broadest selections of online video."

Sky renamed its PC on-demand download service, Sky Anytime, as Sky Player in May. Sky Player's content includes hit shows such as Prison Break, Bones and Fringe.

Virgin Media became the first third party to launch an iPlayer service when it went live on the cable platform in May.

The iPlayer is also available on the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch.
